Plant Nanny by fourdesire

Plant Nanny combines health with fun to remind you to drink water regularly. The cute plant keeps you company every day by living in your phone. In order to keep it alive and help it grow, you must give it water at certain periods of time.

The latest iPhone app I am obsessed with is Plant Nanny. It is currently avaliable for FREE on the Apple App Store, Android Google Play, and Windows Phone.

I always thought I drank a lot of water, but I was way wrong. Plant Nanny configures how much water your body needs daily based on your weight and body activity (mine is 117 oz of water). Every time you drink a glass of water, you also water your plant.

features-grow-up

The first plant I grew was a Dandelion (above)!

Forget to drink water? No problem, Plant Nanny can send you periodic reminders (customizable).

I have found a lot of joy in watering my plants so that I keep them healthy and can watch them grow. Once you do grow a plant to maturation, the plant goes into your garden where it will gain seeds daily (the currency in the app) that can be used to purchase different plants or decoration.

Yes To Tomatoes Blemish Clearing Facial Towelettes

Yes to Tomatoes Blemish Clearing Facial Towelettes help fight acne and blemishes when you’re on the go with powerful blemish-fighting ingredients that are proven to help heal and clear skin.

A few months ago I signed up for the subscribe & save deal on Amazon to receive a monthly shipment of Yes To Tomatoes Blemish Clearing Facial Towelettes mainly because I had wanted to accomplish a few things:

  • Clean off my makeup EVERY night
  • Fight acne
  • Save money, time, and effort

According to the brand, Yes To Carrots, online store, these face wipes are $5.99, and I would also have to drive to buy them every month… which I am notorious for NOT doing. Amazon offers them for only about $5.00 a month with free shipping when you sign up for a subscription. And so, Amazon having the best price and offering the easiest way to enable me to ACTUALLY have a new pack every month, I thought it was a pretty safe bet.

I am currently into my third shipment, and I am already in love with this product. I have already noticed a difference in my acne level and I feel a peace of mind knowing I am keeping my skin free of the harsh effect of wearing makeup overnight.

I cannot wait to start testing more of the Yes To products! They have a bunch of different products for different wants and needs.

  • Yes To Carrots – nourishing
  • Yes To Cucumbers – soothing
  • Yes To Tomatoes – clear skin
  • Yes To Blueberries – age refresh
  • Yes To Grapefruit – correct & repair
  • Yes To Carrots Fragrance Free

I whole heartedly recommend this product, and I will probably be a lifelong customer.

Sally Hansen Triple Shine Reef Raf
Sally Hansen Triple Shine Reef Raf

Thanks to Influenster, I was able to receive a Sally Hansen Triple Shine nail polish in Reef-Raf #210 in my Violot VoxBox.

Influenster and Sally Hansen challened us to post about our “Shining Moment” so this isn’t actually a review, and more of a personal piece.

Create a post about a shining moment you had while wearing Sally Hansen’s Triple Shine™ nail color. Your “shining moment” can be as small as feeling great with your look, or as big as conquering a fear. You tell us what makes you shine!

My Shining Moment wearing Reef-Raf was definitely catching a glimpse of it throughout the day. Simple and sweet, I suppose. Whenever I wear something beautiful, I cannot help but sneak peaks at it and admire the quality. And there is nothing like a bright pink polish to brighten your mood. They say the way you dress can effect how you act and feel, well I definitely think the #tripleshine polishes make you act and feel “shinier.”

Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo

I know you’re busy keeping up with that social life! So don’t waste precious time in the bathroom, just use Clean Freak™. Get that perfect hair (and the perfect guy!) before all the other girls. Expect more room on your social calendar because this salon formula dry shampoo will have you and your hair ready for a night out on the town.

While I didn’t receive my Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo from Influenster, I have purchased in the past and have wanted to do a review on it for awhile. Last Year, I received Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray from Influenster in the Sweetheart VoxBox. Because of this, I have become a pretty big fan of the Not Your Mother’s line and have purchased quite a few of their products since.

As usual, here is an awesome video from NYM on how to use the dry shampoo:

Application: Spray generously on roots and throughout hair. Brush through to diffuse powder and watch it absorb any excess oils. Style as desired and enjoy your newly freshened hair.

My opinion of the Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo is that it is right on par with other dry shampoos in its price range. While I haven’t tested very many, I definitely thought it was a decent competitor. Since I am already a fan of the NYM brand, I prefer it. From what I have read of other reviews, some hated the smell while others loved it and most agreed that it did the job it was supposed to do. So the bottom line? If you like the smell… get it! Because it is a very efficient dry shampoo. Plus it is super affordable!

Check out the Product Page for the Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo at Influenster for more information and reviews, plus a free shipping code for your next NYM purchase!

You can find Not Your Mother’s products at most major retailers, such as Walmart and CVS, and also at Ulta. Suggested retail price: $5.99 for 8oz.

Jimmy Choo EDT

I walked into Sephora one day and smelled something heavenly. The girl working there mentioned a lady had just been there and went crazy over the Jimmy Choo EDT and sprayed it all over herself. I was immediately in love and did the exact same thing – bathed in it! This was early decemeber, so I still had time before Christmas and my boyfriend Jake bought it for me from FragranceNet (you just can’t beat their prices!).

Jimmy Choo EDT

Announced as “a dazzling aura of glittering femininity”

Perfumer Olivier Polge created Jimmy Choo Eau de Toilette as a modern floral – fruity composition with deep woody base. Its opening bursts with vibrant freshness of ginger, pear and green accords. Exotic tiger orchid, which forms the heart of the original, is blended with tea rose to create a seductive floral aura. The base is woody, but unlike the debut it does not contain patchouli, it contains cedar and vibrant woods.

I had a hard time distinguishing the smells (must go back to my crappy nose) but the most noticeable notes for me are PEAR and ROSES, with a slight woodsy undernote.

I was at Sephora with my best friend when I found Jimmy Choo EDT, and she was actually surprised how much I loved it. I generally go for strong scents like Gucci Guilty Intense to name drop one in particular. And Jimmy Choo EDT is much more… innocent or pure. Compared to my usual sexy and strong scents. Jimmy Choo is light and delicate. Clean and refreshing.

Will I purchase a full size? DUH! Already bagged it for Christmas from my boyfriend. Hooray!

Where to Buy? My two favorite perfume sources: Sephora and FragranceNet as options. FragranceNet consistently provides 15-21% off coupons, so make sure to check RetailMeNot before you purchase. Prices calculated on Jan 6, 2014.

3.4 oz Jimmy Choo EDT

  • Sephora – I couldn’t find the EDT prices online, but I know they sell it in-store. I believe retail it is $85.
  • FragranceNet – $53.19 without coupon

Influenster Violet VoxBox

It has arrived! My Influenster Violet VoxBox is here.

Inspired by the season’s dark, moody florals, the violet VoxBox is for the beauty queens of Influenster Nation. And, as surely as winter comes, we know that under layers if snow, spring violets still grow. So go on, check in your box, test your new goodies and start sharing a little flower power with your friends, family, and followers this fall!

What’s inside mine you ask? Read below!

  • Goody Athlétique Headband (blue/black)
  • Sally Hansen New Triple Shine (Reef-raf 210)
  • SOYJOY Baked Whole Soy & Fruit Bar (Banana)
    And as a special bonus…

  • Goody QuikStyle hairbrush

So my initial thought is that the only thing related to the idea of the Violet VoxBox being for beauty queens is MAYBE the nail polish. And there doesn’t seem to be much dark, moody florals except in the box design…

Regardless there are some cool products that I can’t wait to try out and I am excited to finally be able to test them!

Individual blog posts for each item coming soon!

Disclaimer: I received these products to test for free through the Influenster VoxBox program.

Perfume of the Day: Escada Cherry in the Air

I have been wanting to test out all of the fragrance samples I have received over the last year, but have not taken it upon myself to actually do it… until now! Honestly, I will not exactly be posting a new perfume every day, but I will be reviewing a lot more perfumes in the future now that I am *forcing* myself to finally do it.

Being as this is the *first* POTD, I plan to post a simple review of my thoughts and then whether or not I plan to purchase.

What perfume spawned this sudden bought of un-laziness you may ask?

Well that would be Escada Cherry in the Air.

I recently received a sample in my latest Sephora online purchase (I am finally trying Bare Escentuals / Minerals again, woohoo). The thing is – I HATE CHERRIES. Venemously. I do not like cherry flavored drinks or raw cherries. I do however like DESSERTS like cherry pie, but that is about it. When I order a sundae or drink that has a cherry… it goes to waste or one of my lucky friends get to eat it.

So when I smelled Escada Cherry in the Air, I was SHOCKED. Shocked that I liked it, and impressed with how good it smelled.

Summer is for fun, enjoying life, and taking in the fresh air as you go. Riding a bicycle in the French countryside, you stop on the way to pick some cherries and share them with loved ones. The sweet cherry taste brings to mind the pleasurable, breathtaking, and out-of-this-world feeling of falling in love, and that special summer when it came about.

Notes:
Black Cherry, Raspberry, Mandarin, Marshmallow, Gardenia, Coconut, Sandalwood, Oakwood.

Style:
Fun. Pleasurable. Special.

I am probably the worst person to do a perfume review since I suck at distinguishing smells and half the time my nose is stuffy and completely useless. But I absolutely love them, regardless.

The most noticeable notes for me are CHERRIES (obviously) but with a more sour quality, MARSHMALLOW, and a hint of RASPBERRY.

This is definitely a youthful fragrance. It made me immediately feel the age of about thirteen but more glam and less pimpley. And at the same time, slightly sexy. That age where a girl is just becoming a woman.

Overall, it is very light fragrance, probably more suitable for the daytime. It plays between the feelings of sweet and sour. It has decent lasting power, not bad but not great either.

Will I purchase a full size? No, simply because it is not “me.” It is a pleasant scent but after I wore it today, I am ready to move on. And that is usually how to tell if you like something or not.

Where to Buy? For future note, I will be listing my two favorite perfume sources: Sephora and FragranceNet as options. FragranceNet consistently provides 15-21% off coupons, so make sure to check RetailMeNot before you purchase. Prices calculated on Dec 13, 2013.

I am reading Divergent by Veronica Roth on Audible

Yesterday I was watching various videos on youtube and through the rabbit hole was eventually led to this DIY video about creating an at home coffee and tea bar by Blair Fowler, who is best known as juicystar07 for her awesome make-up videos. Blair was also promoting her free audiobook download link from Audible (and specifically the book she was reading at the time – Divergent by Veronica Roth.

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

I have never been a huge fan of audiobooks, but after being inspired by the Fowler girl’s amount of reading despite leading busy lives (in a different video, Elle Fowler mentioned that she reads multiple books at a time! HOLY CRAP!). After hearing this, I really wanted to get back into reading like I used to before college. The most recent series I read was The Hunger Games series last year, and before that only a few books here and there. Warm Bodies and World War Z are still sitting on my bookshelf unfinished. In high school I would read at least a book a week!

I followed the link listed in the video’s description (http://audible.com/blair) and proceeded to my one month free trial at Audible. A subscription is normally $14.95 a month, which seems a little steep to me for only one book, but I read somewhere that they offer another deal for 50% off the first three months.

After some browsing, I ended up purchasing Divergent because of Blair’s recommendation and because it is going to be released as a movie early next year! Once I downloaded the app on my iPhone, I was ready to listen.

At first I was skeptical. I have not had a lot of experience with audiobooks, and I was not sure that I would have the focus to give the book my full attention (I am a horrible multitasker). But after about an hour, I was completely acclimated into the world and able to visualize what was happening. I listened while I was at work and was mostly able to do both tasks and only had to rewind a few times. So far I am enjoying the experience.

Audible makes listening to audiobooks very simple. My favorite feature is the “rewind 30 seconds” function. I find myself using it constantly if I missed something or wanted to further analyze a section. You can also fast forward 30 seconds, bookmark a section, speed up the speaker, set a timer to stop reading (perfect for bedtime), move between chapters with one click, and probably more I haven’t needed or discovered yet.

Overall, audible is a great way to listen to and purchase your audiobooks. I suppose my only complaint is the monthly price tag.

*edit – Blair was actually promoting the book Requiem by Lauren Oliver in that video, but in this video that I watched next she mentioned Divergent.. my bad 😀

Obsessed with Kat Von D’s Fragrances

I absolutely love perfumes and colognes. I am not one of those connoisseurs who can tell you what notes there are or anything like that, in fact I am horrible at it. I simply enjoy perfumes, and that’s that.

My ALL TIME favorite scent is Sinner by Kat Von D and I happen to own her entire collection because of this.

poetica adora saint sinner
My fascination started with Kat’s collection when I read a review about Adora as being sexy and mysterious… and that is exactly what I wanted to be. After much searching online and at Sephora, I was able to get the whole collection piece by piece – all on sale!

Here is my ranking of the collection:

1. Sinner (2009)

Sinner is my go to scent. I will wear it any time of day or season just because I love it so much. I suppose you could say it is my signature scent at the moment. It is absolutely intoxicating and beautiful. Huge plus? My boyfriend LOVES it!

Click here to see the notes in Sinner.

2. Saint (2009)

Saint ranks very close to Sinner for me, except that Saint is a little more feminine, while Sinner is edgier. It is unique and sweet.

Click here to see the notes in Saint.

3. Poetica (2011)

Poetica is the first scent I owned by Kat. It was my absolute favorite at the time. It is much softer compared to her other perfumes and very romantic, floral, and feminine. I always get compliments when I wear it.

Click here to see the notes in Poetica.

4. Adora (Summer 2010)

I wanted to love it so much but Adora just does not do it for me. In my opinion, it has a similar quality to Rebelle by Rihanna (a fragrance I am not too keen on) but Adora is stronger and in my opinion even less tolerable. According to Fragrantica, a note they share is Amber, so perhaps that is the reason.

Click here to see the notes in Adora.

I hope Kat Von D comes out with a new fragrance someday because I will definitely be adding it to my collection!

My Tattoo: Infinity Sign

I realized today that I have never shared with my blog my tattoo. Well, I got it last November with my best friend, Christina. We were on 6th street in Austin while her cousin got a tattoo and Christina decided to get her tattoo (a Bobcat on her left foot) and I decided to get something I’d always wanted: the infinity sign on the back of my neck. (Above pic is a day or two after I got it)

Bobcat Tattoo   Getting my Infinity Tattoo

I know, I know… they’re overdone, everyone has one. But I have wanted one for a long time, and really I DO NOT care! I went with the simplest design and I think it turned out really great!

We got our tattoos done at All Saints Tattoo, and it was really fun. Christina’s cousin gets all of her tattoos there and the people are really cool – no one made fun of me for getting my tattoo hehe

Why did I get it? Because I like it.

Will I regret it? Nah, I can’t even see it usually so how will I get sick of it? 😛

Plus I *really* hate that ‘hump’ part of the back of my neck. And the tattoo totally makes it pretty 🙂

Jake isn’t a big fan of tattoos… so maybe this will be my only one. But I still want to get my swan. And Christina wants me to get a matching bobcat tattoo.. we will see.

Personalized Rustic ‘My Soulmate’ Picture Frame by PrinceWhitaker

As I mentioned in my Kanvess review, I ordered a custom frame from the Etsy shop PrinceWhitaker for Jake for our 6 month anniversary. This is the first time I have ever purchased from Etsy, and it went very smoothly.
Personalized Rustic 'My Soulmate' Picture Frame by PrinceWhitaker

Hand engraved with a heart with the happy couple’s initials and the script words “my soulmate“. Each one measures 5×5″ with a 3×3” opening for a photo. Our frames are all natural, unfinished wood. The frames are of a rustic chic style, without a glass panel, and we highly recommend that you display them as is to keep them true to that style.

I was not only able to purchase a (mostly) one-of-a-kind piece, but I was even able to add my own custom touches with no additional charge (I requested the date we met, 12-10-12, be added to the back). The best part? It was only $12.99 with $3.95 shipping.

Back of Frame, engraved date 12-10-12

I definitely recommend anyone looking for cool, rustic themed pieces to check out PrinceWhitaker’s store. They have a large assortment of wedding gifts and decorations. Plus if you like them on their facebook, they will give you a coupon code to use in their store!

Kanvess – Prints of your Instagram Photos

I ordered 6 prints from Kanvess.com, a site that will print your Instagram photos in cute little 3×3 inch squares, for my gift to Jake for our 6 month anniversary (I will post the pics when the custom frame from Etsy comes in). They cost a reasonable 25 cents each with $1.50 shipping (there is a 6 photo minimum).

From this transaction, I am very impressed with Kanvess. The site is sleek and easy to use, and the app is tremendously helpful. Once I decided on Kanvess, it only took a few minutes to have my order placed.

The prints shipped and arrived within a few days and the quality is fairly nice. I especially love that they offer the hard to find 3×3 size, although it would be nice if they offered more sizes, which is, in my opinion, their biggest downside.

All in all, I will definitely use Kanvess again when I need more Instagram prints! I see a cool Instagram collage in my future!
