I am reading Divergent by Veronica Roth on Audible

Yesterday I was watching various videos on youtube and through the rabbit hole was eventually led to this DIY video about creating an at home coffee and tea bar by Blair Fowler, who is best known as juicystar07 for her awesome make-up videos. Blair was also promoting her free audiobook download link from Audible (and specifically the book she was reading at the time – Divergent by Veronica Roth.

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

I have never been a huge fan of audiobooks, but after being inspired by the Fowler girl’s amount of reading despite leading busy lives (in a different video, Elle Fowler mentioned that she reads multiple books at a time! HOLY CRAP!). After hearing this, I really wanted to get back into reading like I used to before college. The most recent series I read was The Hunger Games series last year, and before that only a few books here and there. Warm Bodies and World War Z are still sitting on my bookshelf unfinished. In high school I would read at least a book a week!

I followed the link listed in the video’s description (http://audible.com/blair) and proceeded to my one month free trial at Audible. A subscription is normally $14.95 a month, which seems a little steep to me for only one book, but I read somewhere that they offer another deal for 50% off the first three months.

After some browsing, I ended up purchasing Divergent because of Blair’s recommendation and because it is going to be released as a movie early next year! Once I downloaded the app on my iPhone, I was ready to listen.

At first I was skeptical. I have not had a lot of experience with audiobooks, and I was not sure that I would have the focus to give the book my full attention (I am a horrible multitasker). But after about an hour, I was completely acclimated into the world and able to visualize what was happening. I listened while I was at work and was mostly able to do both tasks and only had to rewind a few times. So far I am enjoying the experience.

Audible makes listening to audiobooks very simple. My favorite feature is the “rewind 30 seconds” function. I find myself using it constantly if I missed something or wanted to further analyze a section. You can also fast forward 30 seconds, bookmark a section, speed up the speaker, set a timer to stop reading (perfect for bedtime), move between chapters with one click, and probably more I haven’t needed or discovered yet.

Overall, audible is a great way to listen to and purchase your audiobooks. I suppose my only complaint is the monthly price tag.

*edit – Blair was actually promoting the book Requiem by Lauren Oliver in that video, but in this video that I watched next she mentioned Divergent.. my bad :D

Obsessed with Kat Von D’s Fragrances

I absolutely love perfumes and colognes. I am not one of those connoisseurs who can tell you what notes there are or anything like that, in fact I am horrible at it. I simply enjoy perfumes, and that’s that.

My ALL TIME favorite scent is Sinner by Kat Von D and I happen to own her entire collection because of this.

poetica adora saint sinner
My fascination started with Kat’s collection when I read a review about Adora as being sexy and mysterious… and that is exactly what I wanted to be. After much searching online and at Sephora, I was able to get the whole collection piece by piece – all on sale!

Here is my ranking of the collection:

1. Sinner (2009)

Sinner is my go to scent. I will wear it any time of day or season just because I love it so much. I suppose you could say it is my signature scent at the moment. It is absolutely intoxicating and beautiful. Huge plus? My boyfriend LOVES it!

Click here to see the notes in Sinner.

2. Saint (2009)

Saint ranks very close to Sinner for me, except that Saint is a little more feminine, while Sinner is edgier. It is unique and sweet.

Click here to see the notes in Saint.

3. Poetica (2011)

Poetica is the first scent I owned by Kat. It was my absolute favorite at the time. It is much softer compared to her other perfumes and very romantic, floral, and feminine. I always get compliments when I wear it.

Click here to see the notes in Poetica.

4. Adora (Summer 2010)

I wanted to love it so much but Adora just does not do it for me. In my opinion, it has a similar quality to Rebelle by Rihanna (a fragrance I am not too keen on) but Adora is stronger and in my opinion even less tolerable. According to Fragrantica, a note they share is Amber, so perhaps that is the reason.

I hope Kat Von D comes out with a new fragrance someday because I will definitely be adding it to my collection!

My Tattoo: Infinity Sign

I realized today that I have never shared with my blog my tattoo. Well, I got it last November with my best friend, Christina. We were on 6th street in Austin while her cousin got a tattoo and Christina decided to get her tattoo (a Bobcat on her left foot) and I decided to get something I’d always wanted: the infinity sign on the back of my neck. (Above pic is a day or two after I got it)

Bobcat Tattoo   Getting my Infinity Tattoo

I know, I know… they’re overdone, everyone has one. But I have wanted one for a long time, and really I DO NOT care! I went with the simplest design and I think it turned out really great!

We got our tattoos done at All Saints Tattoo, and it was really fun. Christina’s cousin gets all of her tattoos there and the people are really cool – no one made fun of me for getting my tattoo hehe

Why did I get it? Because I like it.

Will I regret it? Nah, I can’t even see it usually so how will I get sick of it? :P

Plus I *really* hate that ‘hump’ part of the back of my neck. And the tattoo totally makes it pretty :)

Jake isn’t a big fan of tattoos… so maybe this will be my only one. But I still want to get my swan. And Christina wants me to get a matching bobcat tattoo.. we will see.

Personalized Rustic ‘My Soulmate’ Picture Frame by PrinceWhitaker

As I mentioned in my Kanvess review, I ordered a custom frame from the Etsy shop PrinceWhitaker for Jake for our 6 month anniversary. This is the first time I have ever purchased from Etsy, and it went very smoothly.
Personalized Rustic 'My Soulmate' Picture Frame by PrinceWhitaker

Hand engraved with a heart with the happy couple’s initials and the script words “my soulmate“. Each one measures 5×5″ with a 3×3” opening for a photo. Our frames are all natural, unfinished wood. The frames are of a rustic chic style, without a glass panel, and we highly recommend that you display them as is to keep them true to that style.

I was not only able to purchase a (mostly) one-of-a-kind piece, but I was even able to add my own custom touches with no additional charge (I requested the date we met, 12-10-12, be added to the back). The best part? It was only $12.99 with $3.95 shipping.

Back of Frame, engraved date 12-10-12

I definitely recommend anyone looking for cool, rustic themed pieces to check out PrinceWhitaker’s store. They have a large assortment of wedding gifts and decorations. Plus if you like them on their facebook, they will give you a coupon code to use in their store!

Kanvess – Prints of your Instagram Photos

I ordered 6 prints from Kanvess.com, a site that will print your Instagram photos in cute little 3×3 inch squares, for my gift to Jake for our 6 month anniversary (I will post the pics when the custom frame from Etsy comes in). They cost a reasonable 25 cents each with $1.50 shipping (there is a 6 photo minimum).

From this transaction, I am very impressed with Kanvess. The site is sleek and easy to use, and the app is tremendously helpful. Once I decided on Kanvess, it only took a few minutes to have my order placed.

The prints shipped and arrived within a few days and the quality is fairly nice. I especially love that they offer the hard to find 3×3 size, although it would be nice if they offered more sizes, which is, in my opinion, their biggest downside.

All in all, I will definitely use Kanvess again when I need more Instagram prints! I see a cool Instagram collage in my future!

I’m on the list for the Violet VoxBox!

The Colgate SlimSoft VoxBox isn’t even over yet and I have been invited to participate in ANOTHER VoxBox… this time the Violet VoxBox. I took a pre-survey for the Varsity VoxBox but apparently didn’t qualify for it… which is fine by me (rumor it is all samples) because the Violet VoxBox sounds wayyyy cooler! And girlier, which is a total plus in my book.

Dark, moody florals are back in full-stride this fall, and the Violet VoxBox will be the envy of Beauty Queens across Influenster Nation – so you’re quite the lucky lady!

The description is pretty vague, so of course I am brimming with excitement to know what’s in the Violet VoxBox… stay tuned, I will update once it arrives!

Colgate SlimSoft VoxBox

The new Slim Soft™ toothbrush features floss-tip™1 bristles that are 17x slimmer* at the tip, ideal for cleaning the tight spaces between teeth and gums.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, I recently purchased an electric toothbrush so I was not sure how I would be able to review the Colgate SlimSoft VoxBox… that is until I realized the solution… leave it at my boyfriend’s place! I am there often, and I use a manual brush there anyways… so it is perfect!

The Influenster VoxBox included:

  • Colgate SlimSoft Toothbrush
  • Colgate Total Whitening Toothpaste 0.75 oz
  • Colgate Total Advanced Pro-Shield Mouthwash in Peppermint Blast 2.0 oz

Now that I have had a few weeks to test it out, I am now ready to review the toothbrush! First lets start with a little information about the SlimSoft:

Colgate SlimSoft

  • 17x slimmer tip bristles for a deep clean
  • 6x* deeper reach between teeth and gums
  • 1.5x** deeper access between teeth
  • 35% more bristles for unique mouth feel
  • An ergonomic and flexible handle

* vs. a manual flat trim toothbrush with end-rounded bristles
** vs. an ordinary manual toothbrush

SlimSoft floss-tip versus Regular Bristles

What I noticed the most about the brush was that it was VERY soft, more soft than I even expected. And even though it was soft, it did an amazing job at cleaning my teeth. They literally felt squeaky clean! I compared the bristles to my current manual toothbrush and the difference was astounding.. there are way more, tighter knit bristles in the SlimSoft and that is what gives it an edge! It is much more effective than the usual toothbrush.

Check out the Product Page for the SlimSoft at Influenster for more information and reviews.

You can find Colgate products at most major retailers. Suggested retail price: $4.25 for one brush.

iOS 7 and the WordPress App!

Oh my goodness! A lot happened today… For starters, iOS 7 dropped today and it is so awesome!

My favorite features at the moment

  • Your favorites (under contacts) now have photos!
  • The photos app in general, especially the addition of a videos album!!!!
  • Folders can hold A LOT more apps
  • The look and feel in general
  • Siri, messages, etc. Apps all updated

What I don’t like is much shorter:

  • The charging icon is unnoticeable… I thought my charger broke
  • Emojis need a face lift
  • Still can’t fully control colors. I want my chat bubbles to be pink, already!!

I am still getting used to and discovering the new functions, but so far I am in love with the update! It looks so refreshed and sleek. I loved my old Windows KIN 2m phone for this exact reason… The operating system was very stylish! I thought iOS was already amazing until this update, now the old one looks bulky and dated!

So exciting…. If only they would let me control the color scheme…

Oh and I discovered the WordPress app today as well! Updating is so much easier that I believe I will actually be able to keep up with a blog now!

I’m IN! Time for another Influenster VoxBox

I received an email today… Alerting me to the fact that I am being shipping the latest Colgate Slimsoft VoxBox from Influenster!

Brushing your teeth: You do it every day, twice a day, maybe more! It’s a habit so ingrained that many of us think nothing of it. Which is why one tiny tweak can have a huge impact on your life.

Introducing the Colgate SlimSoft Toothbrush: Made with extra-fine bristles, the Colgate SlimSoft Toothbrush effortlessly cleans those hard-to-reach places without over-brushing your enamel or gumline!

Can’t wait to see those #SlimSoft smiles!

Because a happy mouth is a clean mouth.

Kind of funny timing because I just purchased an electric toothbrush and waterpik from Amazon, so I suppose I will hold off using it until I’ve reviewed the tooth brush included in the VoxBox.

I am so excited to see what else will be in the VoxBox! Thanks again, Influenster!

Starting Over

I created love-sick.org many years ago for my fanlisting adventures, but when that fad started to fade I created the love-sick blog. As time went on I wanted to branch out, leave behind that old site and create something new! That is how CocoRichelle began. Coco is the nickname my best friends in college gave me and Richelle is my middle name. Once I created this name for myself online for various websites, I knew I needed to do something more concrete with it. Lucky for me, no one had discovered this beautiful combination yet and CocoRichelle.com was born!

I have imported my old blog posts to this site and will slowly be creating something wonderful here. Hopefully in time this will become something… something personal and also something that others can utilize in their lives. I want to talk about myself, my life, my days, but I also want to continue with blogging about things that are important to me and also things that I like and love.

Stay tuned!

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray

Now everyday can be a day at the beach… minus the sunburn! Beach Babe has everyone fooled into thinking you just left the beach (you little liar!). It adds sexy, tousled waves and a lite matte finish to any hair type. Infused with natural dead sea salt & sea kelp this salon formula has you and your hair on the boardwalk all year long.

Included in my Influenster SweetHeart Voxbox was a sample size of Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray!

I have very flat hair to begin with, so any help I can get is appreciated. So because my hair already lacks volume and texture, I am very skeptical whether a product like this will benefit me. But the packaging is adorable, and I really like what the brand is doing with their marketing and style. Plus Beach Babe smells really, really good!!

Before we get started, here’s a quick video on how to use the spray:

Application: Mist generously onto clean, damp or dry hair. Comb through evenly and style with fingers or a brush to create random texture, waves and body. Air dry naturally, use a diffuser or lightly blow–dry. Oh and don’t forget your sunblock (wink).

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray

I have been testing out the product for a little over a week now, and I really like the texture it gives my hair! I think it works best when your hair is dry (when I used it too wet it did not work well) and even when using a hair dryer on it. I got a bunch of compliments the first day I used it so I think it definitely made a difference. It somehow gave my fairly flat hair some volume and more sexiness. I am not sure I am even using the product correctly but I really like the outcome that I have created with it!

I love how simple it is, too! Just spray a few times, scrunch hair, and go! Perfect for me!

I picked up a few other NYM products (the shampoo/conditioner, hair detangler, and the full size texturizing spray) and I am very impressed in the quality of the brand! I think I may be their newest fan!

Check out the Product Page for the Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray at Influenster for more information and reviews, plus a free shipping code for your next NYM purchase!

You can find Not Your Mother’s products at most major retailers, such as Walmart and CVS, and also at Ulta. Suggested retail price: $5.99 for 8oz.

Olay Fresh Effects

Olay Fresh Effects keeps skin sparkling from morning till night! The six cleansers and moisturizers offer all-day freshness, and can be mixed and matched for a totally unique experience. The simple yet effective formulas will spruce up your beauty routine, for a long-lasting, beautiful look.

Included in my Influenster SweetHeart Voxbox was the Olay Fresh Effects {Va-Va-Vivid!} Powered Contour Cleansing System!

To start, the Cleansing System comes with two items: the {Shine, Shine, Go Away!} Shine Minimizing Cleanser and an electric facial cleansing brush.

When I first opened this kit, I assumed the brush was just like any face brush… and then when I was writing this review, I realized it was actually electric! The brush itself is designed to get around your face’s contours—the T-zone, hairline, and nose. I would have to agree that the triangular design of the brush is very efficient in reaching those places!

Olay Fresh Effects Va-Va-Vivid! Powered Contour Cleansing System

Now lets talk about the cleanser… I really, really like the way it smells. It is a relatively common smell, I have quite a few products that are similar. But it is very fresh and clean. The cleanser is a pearl-y silver color, and goes on very smooth. I have VERY oily skin, and anything that combats shine is awesome in my book. I am always looking for cleansers to use with my Clarisonic, and I think Olay’s Fresh Effects cleanser may be a contender!

Application: Splash your face and the cleansing brush with a little water. Squeeze Olay Fresh Effects cleanser onto the bristles, turn on the brush and apply it to your face in gentle circles. After about a minute, rinse your face and the brush with cool water. Va-Va-Vivid! Is safe for use in the shower, but do not submerge in water. Avoid contact with eyes.

You can find Olay products at most major retailers, and online at Olay’s website and Amazon. Suggested retail price: $12.99 for the cleansing system, $6.99 for 5oz cleanser.
